Featuring Music from the 11th through the 18th Centuries

The Early Music program highlights music from the 11th through the 17th Centuries including the Renaissance Period. The Music featured in the program comes from England, Italy, France, Spain, Germany, Ireland, Scotland and Wales. Some of the instruments of that time period were the Harp, the Recorder, the Bowed Psaltery, the Penny Whistle and the Human Voice.
The program features a selection of instrumental and vocal music from the countries mentioned.
The Harper and the Minstrel are the husband and wife team of Jay and Abby Michaels. They are full time professional musicians who perform all over the country at Renaissance, Celtic and Folk Music Festivals, Coffee Houses, Nursing Homes and other venues.
Jay and Abby both play the Harp and sing. Abby also plays the Recorder, Bowed Psaltery, Penny Whistle and Flute (wooden, divergent and silver). They have recorded seven CD’s together and have appeared on radio and television. The Harper and the Minstrel have been performing together since 2002. They have performed Educational Programs for students in Massachusetts, New Hampshire, Connecticut, Florida and California. They can offer an educational and FUN program for your students!
A Early Music program will feature:
- Traditional Celtic and Renaissance costumes that were worn by Minstrels and Bards
- Live performance of Early Music from the 11th through the 17th centuries
- Exposure to a variety of Early Musical instruments
- What life was like for an Early Musician
- A brief question and answer session
